CHRISTMAS...or Yule...depending on who you speak to.
Mostly I come across those thinking of Christmas. Everyone is blogging about it. Everyone is thinking about it, talking about it, reasoning it out...so here's my little tidbit added to the massive pool of thought going on within the folds of mindsay.
Why celebrate Christmas even though you know the "truth" about it?
As my son so eloquently puts it in a quote from "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown!": Gimme, gimme, gimme! Get, get, get!
What would we really miss out on if we didn't celebrate the Christmas season? What would we gain?
- an extra 500 bucks in my pocket
- a lower credit card bill
- missing black friday and the crowds thereafter
- no tree to decorate
- no obligatory cookies to make
- no family parties with people you really dont want to be around anyway
- less stress
- no expectations of what other people want from you
What else would we miss that actually may have substance?
- a chance to witness
- a time of remembering who was born to die for our sins
- the plays that are so beautifully constructed to retell the story
- fellowship with friends you dont normally get to see
- time with your own family who you may have to neglect b/c of work
- thoughtful gifts given from a selfless heart
- a time of reflection as to who Jesus really is
All in all, I myself could deal with Christmas if it wasn't an obligation to give to so many people and break my bank for them. If I want to give a gift, I don't wait till Christmas to do it. I could deal with it if it weren't for the inundations of Santa claus *Satan's cause* culture. The focus shouldnt be on what I can get you for Christmas or what you can get me. It shouldnt be about whether or not what you and I do is pagan or christian and who came up with it all. At least we do celebrate the fact that we have a Savior who actually was born... in a few months we will be on to Easter and have the same discussion with only a few terms that change.
At least we have set aside a time where Christians can get back to the truth and rededicate themselves to the cause of Jesus Christ.
So STOP fighting about taking Christ out of Christmas. STOP forcing the world to see Christmas as you do. We all know that it is all in vain.
Christians know it's in vain because the end is eminent. Others know it's all in vain because it doesn't make a difference, they will win the argument. Why deal with the skirmsish, Christians, if we know we have won the war? PICK YOUR BATTLES!!! Win the world one soul at a time instead of trying so hard to overpower the world. Jesus didn't come and save the world all at once. He came and preached to those who would hear him, but started ONE SOUL at a time.
Wanna walk in Jesus's footsteps for real? Follow His example. The system has already been set up. There is nothing new under the sun. There is no new idea that you have thought of that will be more effective than what Christ already set forth.
FOLLOW HIM.
