willie wonka, new movies, and some slightly older ones reviewed
OK so it wasnt a total loss@! I was a bit frightened when I heard that Tim Burton took on this project. That guy is Anne Rice, Stephen King, and Walt Disney rolled into one. Sure, Johnny Depp looked like a Micheal Jackson reject. Sure the oompa loompas looked like miniaturized Danny Devito en masse. BUT the movie was definitely what it intended to be: an updated version of the original. It had its funny moment and creepy moments, thanx to Burton staying true to his style. At least it wasn't like Nightmare before Christmas or that new one Corpse Bride...ick...I am not unhappy with it. I guess I could keep a copy of the original and one of the new wonka side by side and not feel ashamed LOL.
Other movies:
- Stealth ~ definitely must see. I was unhappy about an hour in, if you watch it you will find out why...ugh. Overall great movie.
- Changing Lanes ~ circa 1992, but if you didn't see it yet, you really should.
- Son of the Mask ~ run for your life. it's cute but not worth the money to see it.
- Man of the House ~ I'm sorry, I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes of this movie. I really couldn't deal with the predictability.
- War of the Worlds ~ A must see. I couldnt stand that Dakota chick, she irked the crud out of me, but overall a great story. Her character was too needy.
- Monster In Law ~ If you already saw it, see it again. It is hilarious and totally true...usually doesn't have that great of an outcome in real life tho.
- Mr. & Mrs. Smith ~ Basically you saw all the good parts in the previews. The movie wasn't nearly what they pumped it up to be. I didn't enjoy it that much. The action was good, but like I said, I had seen that already in the previews. Not much else to say.
- Hitch ~ cute movie, cute storyline. I liked it and would watch it again.
- Mean Girls ~ hill-arh-e-us to a tee... i looooved this movie. It is up there with my all time fav's.
- Constantine ~ Pretty good. Kinda weird. But I'm into those heaven hell spiritual movies anyway.
- Wedding Crashers ~ Funny of course, look who is in it. Just not something I would watch with children.
- Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalow ~ This movie had things in it that were totally uncalled for. It was worse than the first movie for gutter humor. Yes it was funny, but my goodness! It was really really vulgar. I say if you have seen it once, you have seen it one time too many.
- Four Brothers ~ SEE IT! SEE IT! SEE IT! Plot twists, revenge, action, heroes, villains...ultimate movie. Lots of language, but worth plugging your ears a few hundred times just for the greatness of this movie.
- Napoleon Dynamite ~ My husband and I have this as our favorite pointless comedy. It's just a great movie to set your mind at ease and not have to think about plots or twists. It is a movie that relaxes your movie mind.
- Lilo & Stitch 2 ~ Yes, I cried. It was a great plot. Some of the voices have changed and the dialogue is just a bit whiney at times, but it will make you well up, too. Watch it with your kids if you aren't ashamed to show a bit of emotion
Otherwise, watch it alone and cry like a baby. It is really an awesome show. - Diary of a Mad Black Woman ~ SEE IT! SEE IT! SEE IT! SEE IT! and anything else this young man makes. It will be worth it. I was on the edge of my seat and also sitting back in agreeance. It is a great movie no matter your race, religion, or creed. I was shocked to my socks at the revelations this movie had to offer for life and love as well.
- Sky High ~ At first I thought this movie would suck eggs, but after I got over that feeling, I found this pretty well presented version of a teenage life. It was actually a good movie. I will put it up there close to Spiderman.
- In Good Company ~ This movie was a surprise. Didn't know the point of it before I began to watch it. I highly recommend this movie. It has a major statement about corporate America vs. hometown America.
More to come:
Underclassman, The Cave, Skeleton Key, Hotel Rwanda, Kung Fu Hustle, Assault on Precint 13 *maybe*,
The 40 year old virgin, and A sound of Thunder.
